BMP Versus BNP lab

We often see errors with regard to use of BMP vs BNP. Below is some detailed info on BMP and BNP what does it indicate and would be helpful in eliminating any confusion and error with use of BMP vs BNP.




BMP: Basic metabolic panel - a test that measures your blood sugar level, electrolyte and fluid balance and kidney function.



BNP: Test is a test ordered to detect heart failure.

BNP levels below 100 pg/mL indicate no heart failure

BNP levels of 100-300 suggest heart failure is present

BNP levels above 300 pg/mL indicate mild heart failure

BNP levels above 600 pg/mL indicate moderate heart failure

BNP levels above 900 pg/mL indicate severe heart failure
